Paradise Lost (Free Video Concert)

The 15th of August 2021 is the launch date for the full video of our concert project ‘Paradise Lost’.

Sponsored by the Continuo Foundation and featuring readings from Milton and Spinoza by Simon Callow, we recorded a complete concert at Oxford’s Holywell Concert Hall centred on the seven Sinfonias of Leonora Duarte. She is the only female composer to have written viol consort music in the 17th Century and lived in Antwerp in the middle of the 17th century where her family were jewellery merchants. Our programme traces the connections between the Duarte family and scientific, political, intellectual & literary figures in their circle including Milton and Spinoza. The programme will include music by John Milton (senior), Matthew Locke, Henri Dumont & Leonora Duarte; and readings from Milton’s Paradise Lost and extracts from Spinoza’s writings.

The concert video will be free to watch from 12am GMT on the 15th August, exclusively here on our website. Just go to the ‘Paradise Lost Concert’ tab in the menu above or click HERE.
